Whenever a game is created or updated, the system automatically determines the assignment requirements based on the game or schedule.

1. Assigner

First, we need to determine the assigner based on the game attributes, which may be based the following factors:

  • where the game is being played and by which association (shared)

    • this can either be an association or a zone that covers many associations

  • the home team association, or it’s region, etc.

  • the schedule (typically tournaments)

2. Positions

One the assigner has been determined, we need to determine which officials are necessary. 2 Referees and 2 Linespersons, or just 1 Referee? Do scorekeepers need to be assigned as well?

This typically only depends on the category of game, which varies by league or tournament.

3. Requirements

For each position, a qualification is required. This typically varies on the game’s category.

Currently each qualification has a level and the position requires a minimum level. We could change this to select a list of required qualifications instead, depending on SID sync.

Note in PCAHA and HQ, a position can also be further constrained by grading requirements or limited categories. Positions may also have a minimum age.

4. Delegation

Any position can be delegated by the main assigner to another assigner to take full responsibility for assigning an official.

5. Pay

For each position, we need to determine how much to pay the assigned official. It’s either paid by the main assigner or the delegated assigner, and the amount is determined by the main assigner.

Pay often varies on the category of game, time of day, and what other officials are necessary.

We may also want to provide bonus pay to specific positions for some reason.

6. Other position details

Currently the only use case would be to determine if the assignment status is a draft or available to be seen by officials.
