Teams restrictions

Introduction

A team restriction is a limitation imposed on a player or team, defining the conditions under which the player may participate in a specific team. These restrictions may vary according to the rules established by a sports organization, league, or federation, and are often used to frame team composition and ensure fair play.

Examples of team restrictions:

  • Age or category: A player may be restricted to playing only in a specific age category.

  • Transfers: Players recently transferred from one club to another may be subject to a period of ineligibility.

  • Level of competition: Certain players may be restricted to specific divisions or leagues, depending on their experience or previous performance.

  • External player quota: A team may have a maximum number of players from other clubs.

Team restrictions are intended to balance competitions and respect existing administrative or sporting rules.

 

Navigate to the Settings tab

  • Select Team Restrictions from the settings menu. Click Add.

Tip: Set up your base restrictions that are common amongst divisions. This will make it easier to make slight adjustments are you create new divisions.

 

  • A screen will appear where you can select divisions and categories.

    • There is an option to select multiple divisions at the same time.

 

Note: You will need to fill in the restrictions BEFORE clicking Create.

  • Once you have put in your restrictions, click Create.

 

Information on Different Restrictions

Enforced vs. Active

  • Enforced: If the restriction is enforced (the enforced checkbox is clicked on), you will not be able to execute your action. e.g., if the roster limit of 20 players is enforced, you will not be able to add a 21st player. If the enforced checkbox is not clicked on, you will only receive a warning pop-up. Note: if you want the restriction to have either of the above responses, it must also be set to active.

  • Active: If the restriction is active (the active checkbox is clicked on), HCR3.0 will know to apply this restriction. If the checkbox is not clicked on, the system will ignore this restriction.

 

Team Restrictions General

Player Allotment

A team’s player allotment must include active, affiliate, and released players. If a player is released (using the Action button), the player is moved from the list of active players to the list of released players. The number of players in summary decreases by one, the number of released players increases by one, and the status of the released player become Pending. No rules in the system are associated with pending released players, but they can be reported and approved in the released player’s list.

 

This is the total number of players on a roster.

For example, this should be the total of:
Active Players 17
Affiliate Players 15
Released Players 5
Total Player Allotment: 37

Maximum Number of Players

  • This is the total number of active players allowed on the roster at one time.

Maximum Import Registrations:

  • This is the total number of import players allowed on the roster at one time.

Maximum Affiliate Registrations

  • This is the total number of affiliate players allowed on the roster at one time.

Maximum Released Registrations

  • This is the total number of released players allowed on the roster at one time.

Maximum Tryout Registrations

  • This is the total number of tryout players allowed on the roster at one time.

Protect Registration Date

  • By selecting Yes, you will not be able to edit the player's date when added to the roster.

Protect Release Date

  • By selecting Yes, you will not be able to edit the player's date when released from the roster.

Team Fee

  • This is a dollar amount charged to each team to allow them to be registered to a division within your branch.

  • Could be referred to as a set-up fee, admin fee, or hosting fee

  • When a fee is entered, it will be added to the Team List report.

Registration Settings

  • Allow All Cards:

    • This allows any player, even if they have not been on a team before, to be rostered.

  • Must-Have Previous Card:

    • In order to be rostered a new team, they must have been rostered during a previous season.

Released registration setting

  • Indicates if the user can release players or not.

Keep Team Approbation on Jersey # Changes

  • By selecting Yes, you will allow the MHA to adjust the jersey numbers on the roster without affecting the Teams approval status.

Participant Requires a Pre-Registration

  • By selecting Yes, players will need to have a registration for the current season in HCR 3.0.

Send e-mail Notice on Team Changes.

  • By selecting Yes, you will enable notifications when team changes are made.

Minimum Age (underage)

  • You can specify the minimum age for an underage player

  • The system defines the minimum age of the division

Maximum Age (overage)

  • You can specify the maximum age for an overage player.

  • The system defines the maximum age of the division

Override the Validation of the Primary Team

  • By selecting Yes, a player can be added as an active player on more than one team.

Qualifications Required to be Valid Until End of Season

  • By selecting Yes and activating this restriction to enforced mode, an active player, affiliate player, and team official can only be added if their qualification does not expire before the end of the season. However, if this option is not forced, only a warning message will be displayed to inform you that the member's qualification will expire before the end of the season.

Show team roster approval box

  • By selecting Yes, to one of the options, the approval box will be added to the printed roster.

Jersey Numbers Must Be Unique

  • By selecting Yes, all jersey numbers on the Roster must be unique as the players are being entered.

Maximum age for an affiliated player

  • This is the maximum age for affiliated players on the team roster.

Minimum age for an affiliated player

  • This is the minimum age for affiliated players on the team roster.

Maximum allowed underage players.

  • The number of underage players allowed on a team roster is entered. If it is left blank, a team will be able to add the desired number of underage players.

Maximum allowed overage players.

  • The number of overage players allowed on a team roster is entered. If it is left blank, a team will be able to add the desired number of overage players.

Configure a date to lock rosters

A date can be added so that no changes are allowed in a team roster after this date. The team lock characteristics are set at three different levels:

  • Default Hockey Canada

  • A team restriction

  • On a team roster

Set up a lock date for affiliated players

  • A date can be added so that no affiliate players can be added to a team roster after this date.

Allow NRP share

  • Allow the addition of non-resident players on a team roster

Overwrite team roster validation

  • By selecting Yes, it is possible to overwrite the team validation to approve the team

Team submit required position

  • By selecting one or more positions, these will be mandatory for the team roster to be approved.

Team status to use whenever a member becomes ineligible

  • Internal, Hierarchical Setting that contains the team status id public to use for a team when a team member becomes ineligible. When it is not set, the team status will stay the same.

Transfer Request Period

  • Date between which transfer requests are allowed

Maximum number of players that can be mutated for a team category by organisation

  • Maximum number of players that can be mutated for a team category by organisation. («Enforced» is ignored)

Team submission for approval lock date

  • The date after which a team won't be able to be submitted for approval.

Member registration and team must have the same team category

  • The registration fee of the member must have the same team category as the team to be rostered in.

Enable interregional transfers

  • Allow members of this organization to transfer to organizations from another region and allow members from another region to transfer to this organization.

 


Team Restrictions—Background Check

Require a valid background check

  • By selecting Yes, the member must have a valid background check to be added to a team roster.

Valid background check status

  • You can select one of the fields from the drop-down menu to set the background check status. You can select one field, all fields, or any combination of fields.

Required background check member type

  • You can select one of the fields from the drop-down menu to define which type of member background check is required. You can select one field, all fields, or any combination of fields.

Required background check member type for team validation

  • You can select one of the fields from the drop-down menu to define which type of member background check is required for team approval. You can select one field, all fields, or any combination of fields.


Team restrictions—Print

Print affiliated players

  • By selecting Yes, the affiliated players will be displayed on the roster when printed.

Print imported players

  • By selecting Yes, the imported players will be displayed on the roster when printed.

Print tryout players

  • By selecting Yes, the tryout players will be displayed on the roster when printed.

Print released players

  • By selecting Yes, the released players will be displayed on the roster when printed.

Require team approval to print team roster

  • By selecting Yes, the team must be approved status to be printed.

Print approved players only.

  • By selecting Yes, when the roster is printed, only the approved players will appear.

Print approved coaches only.

  • By selecting Yes, when the roster is printed, only the approved coaches will appear.

Print approved staff only.

  • By selecting Yes, when the roster is printed, only the Approved staff will appear.

Team Roster report field exclusion

  • If you select any fields in the drop-down menu, they will not appear on the printed rosters. You can select one field, all fields, or any combination of fields.

Team roster report field inclusion

  • If you select any fields in the drop-down menu, they will appear on the printed rosters. You can select one field, all fields, or any combination of fields.

Exclude released bench staff from printing

  • By selecting Yes, released bench staff members will not appear in the printout of the team roster.

Display team sponsor name in team roster

  • By selecting Yes, if a sponsor has been added to one of your teams, it will be displayed in the team roster.


Team Restrictions — Qualifications

  • You can define the qualifications needed in the division and class of your team restrictions. Simply select the qualification and position (coach, assistant coach, safety officer, etc.) and define if this restriction is mandatory for all team officials or only for one member.
